Beautifully calligraphed,
parts of the poem
"Hyakunin Isshu" is depicted on this Tea Set.
It is the most influential and long-lasting anthology of poems in Japan, compiled by poet Fujiwara no Teika. The title literally translates to "one hundred people, one poem each". The poem has preserved eternally the emotions and sentiments of the one hundred poets -- on love, live and art.
Still popular in this day as a tool for learning classical Japanese grammar and culture, it was the inspiration for the polular card game of Karuta.
